Common questions

How often does my car need an MOT?
Every year once it is three years old (in England, Scotland and Wales). The deadline is shown on your last MOT certificate, and you can check it online on GOV.UK using your registration.
How long does an MOT take?
The test itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. Waiting appointments are available, so you can stay in our waiting area while a qualified tester carries it out.
How early can I have my MOT done?
Up to a month (minus a day) before your current MOT runs out, and you keep the same renewal date for next year.
Can I drive my car if the MOT has expired?
Only to a pre-booked MOT test, or to a garage for repairs it needs to pass. Otherwise you can be fined up to £1,000, and your insurance may not be valid.
What is a Class 7 MOT?
Class 7 covers goods vehicles over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg design gross weight, which is most larger vans. Cars, 4×4s and smaller vans are Class 4. We test Class 4, 5 and 7.
